There's just something about Ireland

.....and now we have even more reason to cross the water to the Emerald Isle!
The BFKKO/WFKKO are pleased to welcome their newest member in Chief Instructor Karl Edgington of County Mayo, Ireland who runs the Enigma Kickboxing club.
Leif and Kerry joined Cris on his week long trip where they trained everyday and Cris conducted two K1 seminars.
Whilst Karl and his wife Anne looked after their every needs the guys caught up on some valuable training time and some personalised padwork off Karl himself. The Irish Kickboxing Federations President, Mr Joe Canning also paid a visit to one of Cris' seminars and expressed how impressed he was with it and especially the two students in Kerry-Louise and Leif, a great compliment!

Whilst the trip was planned as a training trip and one to build relations, it would have been rude not to have taken in the beautiful scenery and experienced further local hospitality!!!

Further trips have already been discussed plus the possibility of International competition. The "Fighting" Irish have a very high standard and have always displayed high skill levels.

Good luck to Karl who is shortly to open a brand new gym facility. It should prove to be a great hit with the locals as well as providing a central hub for the WFKKO's European activities!

Keep your eyes open for further news!

Glyn Smith taking BFKKO/WFKKO and WAKO forward

Glyn Smith, Chief Instructor to the BFKKO is not only interested in taking his own students forward to higher levels and great achievements in the Kick Jutsu, Grapple and MMA game but he continues to attend the WAKO courses and examinations for officials and coaches to further his own level of qualification.

He endured hours of very hard physically demanding routines and exercises along with hands on theory work with John C Higo the director of WAKO MMA for Great Britain on Sunday 11th July at Leeds. Glyns attempt to attain this higher level qualification was very successful we are pleased to say!

He was involved in

1. Spartan training for 1 hour including various strength excercises to strengthen core muscles and increase explosive power and they way to teach and pass this information on to the student/client.

2. MMA techniques/groundwork 1 hour going from standing to ground into various groundwork combo's working from rear into chokes/kimoura/arm bar etc etc.

3. 3/4 hour on a one to one basis with John C Higo showing Various drills related to MMA drop knee shoots and exercises to increase core strength and leg strength also increase mobility whilst on the ground.

We asked Glyn what he felt about the course:

"This was a great course and I took lots away from it to help bring MMA within the BFKKO on even further. We have a great system within our own organisation but knowing that the qualification which supports myself, the
other BFKKO instructors and the Organisation itself has been initially introduced and governed by WAKO "The World Governing body for Kickboxing" gives us not only strength but confidence in what we do and what we pass on to others."

Fantastic Harthill carnival Demonstration.

Saturday 10th July 2010, location Harthill Nr Sheffield. Harthill yearly carnival was massively attended on one of the hottest days of the year!

The Falcon Fight Academy of Dinnington also representing the BFKKO was able to showcase all the styles it houses by means of an open air demonstration in the main arena. With a massive presence we at Falcon provided:
Kerry-Louise, 7 times World Champion, to officially open the carnival and then later judge the floats,
WINNERS Harthill School
followed by her being in the demonstration along with Glyn Smith, Jordan Waring, Leif Taggart, Molly Cooley, Sean Helders, Courtney Barrett, Cameron Helders, Luke Farmer, Dale Mathey, Tom Sheils, Katey Adams and Bradley Moore. Many thanks to all the parents who brought all the participants and also stayed to show their support!

So what was on offer from the Falcons on this hot and sunny Saturday?

KARATE

KICKBOXING

MUAY THAI

MMA

KICK JUTSU

GRAPPLING

The demonstration, (The team, as seen on television) was met with open arms by the massive audience in the open air arena and this generated a great interest in the classes available at the Dinnington gym especially with it being local to most of the days visitors.
People visited the Falcon Fight Academy stand prior to the demonstration but flocked in droves after it and showed great interest in many of the styles offered.

All in all a fantastic day for all!!!

More grading Sucesses

Fantastic effort by our summer graders!

Always a quiet time for gradings but all Karate, Kickboxing and Muay Thai graders did extremely well this weekend.

There were 3 1st class passes attained in the kickboxing grading, which is a high amount under what are always some of the strictest measures in the country. Well Done to Jordan Waring and Robert and Artur our two Polish fighters.
