Free Lessons, NO Catch!

The Falcon Fight Academy is boosting in numbers thanks to a bout of free lessons.

The free lessons are held on Wednesday evenings from 6.15pm and led by Master Cris Janson Piers who has taken the decision to continue with the free Thai lesson as they have proven to be so popular.

These lessons are free of charge to students old and new. If anyone has never tried this style of Martial Arts, they can do so without the risk of it costing them a penny.

Cris said: "These lessons are still completely free. Ask anyone there are no catches, the centre is just big enough and successful enough to give a little back to everyone!"

For further information, call Cris on 07973 748907.

Norwegians travel to train at Dinnington

Trond Haugen and his partner Anne Mari recently travelled all the way from Norway to undergo private tuition from Master Cris Janson Piers at the Falcon Fight Academy in Dinnington.

The first lesson was a full contact workout. This gave Trond an eye opening welcome to the Academy. This lesson was carried out in the general Thursday class alongside other students.

The second lesson on Friday was a private pad work lesson. This gave Trond a great idea of how the techniques come into their own. This was a very intense session with many things to learn and digest.

Saturday started off with a few hours relaxing around the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. This enabled the couple to unwind a little before the start of another heavy training session!

The next lesson, later in the day, was a select lesson with all the instructors from Falcon Martial Arts in mid afternoon. This proved to be a session of very hard continuous work under constant pressure with plenty of pushing from the task master CJP.

All the guys from this session commented how demanding this lesson had been. "That was one of the hardest sessions I have had," more than one person said.

The day was topped off by a meal at the quirky Dog and Duck restaurant in Ollerton which serves beautiful food.

On Sunday, Trond underwent instruction in K1, a style which he is not yet fully familiar with, but very interested in. This was a very intensive, hard working, hands on practial lesson, which allowed him to see the differences between the various styles.

Many of the participants worked very hard in this lesson and came out saying they ached so much that "they couldn't feel their shoulders!"

Before finally leaving for home, they both commented "We will return again, maybe next time with some of our students as well."

Cris said: "Trond, as expected was a fantastic martial artist, very clean and precise in his techniques. He was willing to take on new techniques and advice and responded very well to all the training. Both he and his partner Anne Mari were a pleasure to have as guests and students."

Cris was pleased to have them train with him as Norway is well known for its quality and skill within the martial arts world.

While they were here, they stayed at the Angel Inn, Blyth which offers traditional food and ales. This is a place Cris uses a lot to allow his foreign guests to savour the taste of traditional Britain.

FOLLOWING THE TREK

What's next after a 15 mile Trek?

By Mark Baker
Senior PR Officer to BFKKO/WFKKO

I visited the Falcon Gym the day after 18 of their members had undertaken a gruelling 15 mile Trek around the Peak District.

I called on the Sunday just after 2pm. I honestly expected there to be hardly anyone training. I thought there would be a great feeling of "We did our bit yesterday, so we don't have to do anything today." How wrong I was!

The first thing I noticed was that Glyn Smith, (Trek organiser) was at the front of the class, instructing with all his usual passion, desire and vigour. Fair play Glyn. That's the way to do it, always leading by example!

I spotted a good number of guys training who had completed the Trek on the previous day. I was impressed to see such dedication from certain members of the gym.

There did appear to be a few aches and pains, which is not surprising in the slightest. I also have to admit that some of the Trekkers were actually getting through the lesson with smiles on their faces (how dare they?).

While I was at the gym I observed Glyn explaining the virtues of Trekking 15 miles around the Peak District and feeling the benefits of such a hike!

Jordan "The Sheepdog" Waring, was training with his usual exuberance.

Martin "The Smiler" Wheatley, getting through the lesson, with his usual chirpiness.

Luke "The Thinker" Farmer, contemplating his way around the ring.

At one point I wasn't sure if Luke was thinking or sleeping. I wouldn't have blamed him if it had been the latter!

These guys did a great job on the Trek. Then they came straight back to training the next day. They are all great guys, with a passion, dedication and desire to succeed, that can only be admired by many. And comprehended by a few, VERY FEW.

These guys epitomise the true Falcon Spirit.

I for one, take my hat off to them all. Well done guys. You all deserve everything you are working so hard to achieve.

I look forward to the next time I take on a challenge alongside you.

Massive Efforts but not out of Falcons reach!

By Mark Baker BFKKO PR Department.

On Saturday, January 7 a team of Martial Artists and family friends from the Falcon Fight Academy at Dinnington, took part in a sponsored Trek to raise funds for much needed new equipment.

The day was very well organised and supervised by the experienced Trekker, Glyn Smith. There was a support vehicle and numerous first aid trained people on the walk. The Trek set off from Ladybower reservoir and took in some fantastic scenery.

There were a total of 18 Trekkers taking part. The youngest of these amazingly, was 11 year old Emily! There were a wide range of fitness levels shown by everyone who took part. The first section was very intense and extremely difficult to complete, as it was virtually straight up!

There was one person who wanted to quit at the top of this level, but after taking on glucose and sugars, he managed to carry on with some great support from the rest of the team to see him through to the end. True Falcon spirit there for all to see.

The weather helped the Trekkers by staying dry. The guys were hindered however, by very strong winds.

The guys took a short break half way around to have a much deserved lunch.
It was then onwards and upwards to the end of the Trek. The spirit shown by everyone on the trek was amazing. These are a truly motivational group of friends and colleagues.

After an intense seven and a half hours, the job was done and all the dedicated Falcons were home safe and sound.

I have to admit that I was the guy who wanted to quit at the top of the first section. It was my birthday, I had broken one of my toes on Christmas day and I thought I was going to die at the top of that section. With great help and support from the Falcons; Glyn, Luke, Alex, Billy and Tom, plus many others, I managed to get through the stress of it all and make the end of the Trek.

I have never seen such dedication and determination from so many people. Cris Janson-Piers who own the Falcon Fight Academy said, " I am so proud of each and every one of them. They are all genuine Falcons!"

Kerry who is the chief instructor at the academy, completed the Trek along with everyone else and said, "Everyone struggled with that first section, no matter how well they hid it. It was a good day and plenty of people had fun doing this."

Cris added that "There were some people who couldn't manage to make the Trek today, who will be doing something else to help raise funds in the near future. This is so they don't feel as though they have let anyone down by not being here today. That is the Falcon spirit coming through."

Eleven year old Emily said " That was really hard work."

It was a hard day for me, but the sense of achievement at the end was unbelievable.

Once all the money has been collected, the amount raised, should be well up the hill towards a thousand pounds. Well done to everyone who took part. You all did excellent.

Flying Falcon Gym

Flying Falcon (Press Release BFKKO/WFKKO H.Q.)

2 years on and Falcon Kru Leif Taggart is ready to fly the nest!

Leif Taggart of Middlesbrough who is nearing 21 years old joined Master Cris Janson-Piers and Master Kerry-Louise 2 years ago after they hatched a well executed plan together. Although Taggart is to fly the nest slightly prematurely in relation to his professional World title plight and pre planned training. He has completed 2 years of an intense 7 day a week residential programme where he has been personally led by Master Cris Janson-Piers in not only good business practice but in how to administer teaching within the Falcon systems.
Many a person has attained blackbelt and assumed that this is also a teaching qualification, “How wrong this is”. Cris’ selected students/high achievers usually take part in a 3 to 4 year hands on system and only then assist him or Kerry-Louise in classes fully.
Taggart has just taken his senior qualifications in the K1 system that Janson-Piers, one of the first instigators of the system in the UK has developed. This means Leif is now recognised and insured as an instructor when both the 2 year full time studies are combined with many private lessons. Leif has been teaching Muay Thai at the Falcon as he was already a Kru grade (Equivalent to blackbelt) and had successfully developed the “Black Falcon Thai” club. In these classes was Instructor turned student Master Kerry-Louise one of the mostly highly decorated female fighters in the World and president of the BFKKO its self! She embarked upon class and private tuition which has also taken her, like Taggart to the senior grade in the Muay Thai system which will enable her to teach also.
All in all this last 2 years can only be seen as a massive success for Leif. He is now to return to Middlesbrough still under the watchful eye of his coach, instructor and manager Master Cris Janson-Piers and open up the “Flying Falcon Gym” very aptly named, this will signify further growth for the organisation and the reward for Leif for the 2 years of dedication and being away from home, family and friends. Cris will attend this club on a regular basis to teach seminars and advanced courses.
So, the last piece in this amazing jigsaw is the continued commitment of Leif Taggart. Cris’ plan was to achieve what they have achieved but also to raise Taggart from Amateur World status to Pro World status with the intense 7 days a week training. Cris hoped for this to happen before Leif returned home to ensure the training was kept to it’s optimum but with his early return this has had to be restructured. Leif has vowed an undying commitment to Kerry-Louise, Cris and the Falcon to return at weekends for intense training alongside other team mates also to ensure their all time dream and wish comes true! Janson-Piers is known as the trainer of champions and with a stealth like attitude and manner has led many to World or International level.
This is going to be a hard commitment to fulfil when Taggart is to run his own club also under the BFKKO banner but one he assures his coach he can keep, especially as he has to maintain Kerry-Louise’s instruction up to Kru grade in Muay Thai.
Taggart is a contracted pro now and hopefully should be in the ring before the end of the year if a niggling injury subsides.
Cris and Kerry-Louise wish Leif all the very best and complimented him on whilst  living with them 24/7 for two years he has been a trouble free perfect member of their family, a great martial artist and a true friend.

Leif was asked to add his own comments.....
First of all I would like to thank Cris, Kerry and all the Falcon Fight Academy members for making my stay here so so welcoming. While I have been here I have learned so much.  I never ever thought I could learn so much to such a high standard ever, I’ve had some absolute amazing experiences and found some amazing friends whilst here, which I will treasure and love forever. My training partner Kerry-Louise has been an inspiration to me and my training, following in her footsteps in training programmes, lessons, courses and out of gym CV work will of course help me for the rest of my life. She’s shown me how to be and act as a true and very professional champion and helped me to cook, iron and clean ha!!  Cris has been the best coach, manager, friend and uncle anyone could wish for, teaching me so many skills of which I have used to win my recent and very hard fights in the past two years. Cris has also shown me the way and been a big part in changing me from a teenager into a man and has improved my maturity so much! Thank you again, I will miss you so much you are such a massive part of my life. Thank you also to the members of the BFKKO and Falcon Fight Academy for being my friends, colleagues and fighting family, I will make the BFKKO proud to have a new Middlesbrough club and will make sure it’s as high standard as you and all your clubs are, thanks again, yours in sport.”
Leif Robert Taggart!
